Junior Data Scientist

About the Role

We are seeking a Junior Data Scientist to support a partner organization of Haystack focused on analyzing consumer behavior and operational data across venues in Philadelphia. This role involves utilizing purchasing, dining, labor, Point of Sale, and inventory data to derive insights that enhance customer segmentation and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze consumer purchasing and dining behaviors to segment customers meaningfully.
• Communicate insights through statistical approaches and compelling visualizations suitable for varied stakeholder groups.
• Assess operational performance by integrating data from labor tracking, POS, and inventory management systems.
• Detect operational inefficiencies and propose actionable solutions to improve venue functions.
• Perform ad-hoc analysis to evaluate the outcomes of short-term strategic initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to establish relevant success measures.
• Support building scalable data pipelines using Python, R, and SQL to ensure efficient data access for analytics and reporting purposes.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related discipline; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
• Between 1 to 3 years of professional experience in analytics or data science roles.
• Proficient in data manipulation and transformation utilizing Python or R.
• Working knowledge of SQL for querying and analyzing data sets.
• Understanding of data science processes, including data cleaning, feature engineering, and predictive modeling techniques.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical findings effectively to diverse audiences.
