Role Overview

The Digital & IT team owns the design, development, and operation of the core digital and IT capabilities behind Vodafone’s next-generation platform. In this junior engineering role, you will work in cross-functional squads and use an AI-enabled software development lifecycle to help build platform capabilities.

You will use AI tools to speed up analysis of existing systems, produce specifications, and support software delivery. The role involves converting platform assets and business needs into clear, reusable engineering outputs and contributing to spec-led, thin-slice development. You will also help ensure AI-generated material is checked for correctness, completeness, security, and compliance with Vodafone engineering standards.

What You Will Be Doing

• Analyze existing codebases and services with AI support to identify reusable logic and integration patterns.
• Draft and improve specifications, acceptance criteria, and user stories that align with platform architecture.
• Create validation materials and test scenarios based on the defined specifications.
• Turn business requirements into engineering-ready documentation and artefacts.
• Work with developers to keep specifications, code, and testing aligned.
• Review AI-generated specifications, code suggestions, test cases, and documentation for accuracy, security, consistency, and architectural fit.
• Spot risks in AI-assisted delivery, including invented requirements, missing logic, security weaknesses, and gaps between intent and implementation.
• Support incremental delivery while maintaining traceability from requirements through to implementation.
• Help implement services, APIs, and platform components while validating AI-assisted outputs.
• Take part in agile ceremonies such as refinement sessions, planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Contribute to AI-SDLC templates, team practices, and ongoing squad improvements.

Required Skills and Knowledge

You should understand how AI tools can assist with system analysis, specification building, and delivery workflows. A solid grounding in software engineering basics is also expected, including APIs, data structures, and fundamental system design.

The role calls for awareness of responsible AI use in software delivery, including validation, traceability, quality assurance, and security. Strong collaboration skills are important, as you will work closely with engineers, architects, and product teams. You should also be able to document technical ideas clearly and adapt quickly to new tools and methods.

Exposure to iterative delivery practices, CI/CD, and continuous improvement is valuable for this position.

Who You Are

• You have worked with at least one programming language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, or a similar language.
• You understand APIs, web services, and basic integration concepts.
• You are familiar with modern development workflows, including Git and the basics of CI/CD.
• You have some awareness of AI and LLM tools and how they can be used in software development.
• You have exposure to cloud-native ideas such as microservices, containers, or cloud platforms.
