Java Engineer - Contract Role at Leading Investment Bank

Role Overview

This contract position is open at a prominent investment bank located in London, requiring physical presence five days per week. The assignment lasts until December 31st, 2026, with remuneration offered as a competitive day rate inside IR35 regulations, processed via Rockford Payroll.

Key Duties

• Create, develop, and sustain scalable, durable applications using Java and/or Python.
• Partner with multifunctional teams to ideate, design, and launch new functionality.
• Implement and administer infrastructure with Terraform as code.
• Handle deployment and management of containerized systems on AWS ECS.
• Work efficiently with PostgreSQL databases, focusing on design optimization and query performance.
• Leverage CI/CD pipelines through tools like Jenkins or Spinnaker to automate building, testing, and deployments.
• Enforce best practices for code quality, security, and application performance, including thorough code reviews.
• Keep abreast of evolving tech trends and apply them to enhance the development workflow.

Required Expertise

• Demonstrable proficiency in Java and/or Python coding languages.
• Experience in front-end development using React framework.
• Practical knowledge of infrastructure as code via Terraform.
• Skillful deployment and management of AWS ECS containers.
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL schemas and query optimization.
• Use and familiarity with CI/CD automation tools such as Jenkins or Spinnaker.
• Ability to work effectively within Agile development methodologies.
