Role overview
This is a remote contract opportunity for a journalist based in New Zealand. The role calls for a weekly commitment of 10 to 40 hours.
What you will do
- Develop original reporting ideas, shape them into pitches, and turn them into news pieces, feature stories, and deeper long-form articles.
- Carry out interviews, collect direct insights, and confirm information using reliable and authoritative references.
- Write content that is clear, engaging, and factually accurate for a range of readers.
- Revise and polish articles so they meet quality, consistency, and editorial expectations.
- Work closely with editors, designers, and fellow journalists to strengthen the final output.
- Keep track of news developments, emerging trends, and issue areas connected to your assigned beat.
What you need
- Prior journalistic experience with a strong record of published work.
- Excellent written and spoken communication abilities, along with careful attention to detail.
- Comfort with interviewing sources and distilling complex information into usable reporting.
- Ability to work autonomously, stay organized, and deliver within short deadlines while working remotely.
- Strong curiosity, initiative, and analytical thinking.
