Job Overview

The Retreat at Canton is actively seeking a full-time Housekeeper committed to maintaining cleanliness and order within a senior living community located in Retreat, Saint Peter, Barbados. This role is crucial for ensuring a safe, welcoming environment through a variety of housekeeping tasks.

Work Schedule and Location

This position operates Tuesday through Saturday on-site at the facility.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Carry out all cleaning duties following a detailed worksheet and checklist for all resident rooms and common areas to maintain high hygiene standards.
• Correctly prepare cleaning solutions by mixing water and detergents as specified.
• Operate cleaning chemicals and equipment carefully to avoid damage to floors and fixtures.
• Perform floor and wall cleaning using methods including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, and carpet shampooing or steam cleaning.
• Dust furniture, walls, and all equipment, including rearranging furniture to clean thoroughly.
• Clean windows, mirrors, and glass partitions using appropriate cleaning agents and tools.
• Adjust heating, cooling, and ventilation systems when necessary, including changing air filters.
• Collect and dispose of trash, ensuring outdoor areas such as porches, parking lots, and dumpsters are debris-free.
• Maintain stock levels of toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels, and tissues in resident and common bathrooms as well as bistro areas.
• Replace light bulbs throughout the facility as needed.
• Ensure suites with two residents are cleaned twice weekly.
• Report any major repair or maintenance requirements to supervisors by documenting in the maintenance log and housekeeping checklist.

Education and Experience

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of related housekeeping experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of infection control practices relevant to healthcare or assisted living environments.
• Capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain composure under stress.
• Understanding and alignment with the assisted living philosophy to promote resident well-being.
• Flexible availability including weekends, evenings, and peak service hours to support residents effectively.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with team members and residents.
