Role Overview

d.light India is looking for a Group Tax Manager to lead the company’s global tax agenda. This position is central to shaping tax strategy, maintaining compliance across multiple countries, improving the group’s tax efficiency, and managing tax accounting and reporting. The role partners closely with senior leadership and covers tax matters across the USA, Mauritius, India, Hong Kong, China, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Zambia.

The right candidate will bring a strategic mindset, strong technical depth, and the ability to handle complex international tax issues, reduce exposure to risk, and advise on new initiatives and business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and drive the group’s global tax strategy so it supports broader business goals.
  • Provide guidance on tax planning, compliance, governance, and accounting across all operating geographies.
  • Design and implement tax-efficient structures and processes that strengthen the group’s overall tax position.
  • Continuously identify tax risks, reduce exposure, and maintain a formal tax risk register covering all jurisdictions, material tax positions, and open disputes; present it to the CFO and Audit Committee at least twice each year as a board-level governance item.
  • Support leadership with tax input on new projects, product launches, and expansion plans.
  • Own compliance for OECD Pillar Two global minimum tax requirements and country-by-country reporting (CbCR), including assessment of financial impact on effective tax rate and timely submission of all filings.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations, including corporate tax, transfer pricing, PAYE, and indirect taxes.
  • Oversee accurate preparation and on-time filing of tax returns, reports, and other statutory submissions.
  • Lead tax accounting activities such as tax provisions, deferred tax review, and proper reporting of tax positions.
  • Provide rolling forecasts of tax payments to the Group Financial Controller to support liquidity planning and funding of expected tax cash outflows.
  • Review business operations regularly for tax-saving opportunities and embed tax planning into wider group strategy.
  • Assess the tax impact of new and existing products or services and recommend suitable optimization approaches.
  • Act as the owner of the transfer pricing policy and ensure it remains current and aligned with international standards.
  • Put in place and maintain intercompany agreements and approvals to support transfer pricing compliance.
  • Review Double Taxation Agreements (DTAs) and apply them effectively to cross-border transactions.
  • Track global tax law and policy changes, including OECD developments, Pillar Two rollout timelines, and country-specific legal updates, then communicate implications to senior management early enough for operational response.
  • Manage external tax advisers across jurisdictions by defining scope, controlling costs, and ensuring advice remains consistent with group tax strategy.
  • Build strategies to take advantage of legislative changes and update company policies accordingly.
  • Improve tax processes using best practices in tax administration.
  • Own the group’s tax technology environment, including ERP tax configuration, tax automation tools, and data quality for reporting.
  • Ensure tax data produced by systems is accurate, auditable, and aligned with compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate and support tax audits, including preparation, issue management, and communication with tax authorities.
  • Assist with internal audits and special tax-related projects.
  • Ensure changes created to benefit from legislative updates are implemented, documented in policy, and tracked through completion.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the tax team to maintain high engagement and strong performance.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and deliver training to build tax capability across the organization.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a closely related field.
  • Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent designation, along with advanced tax coursework.
  • Strong working knowledge of tax accounting standards such as IFRS or US GAAP.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in tax planning, tax compliance, and tax accounting.
  • Minimum 3 years of international corporate taxation experience across multiple jurisdictions, including Africa, preferably East Africa.
  • Proven record of handling tax compliance and advisory work for complex multinational businesses.
  • Deep experience in transfer pricing, cross-border taxation, and use of Double Taxation Agreements.
  • Strong background in tax audits, dispute handling, and interactions with tax authorities.
  • Experience implementing tax compliance systems and improving related processes.
  • Exposure to renewable energy or a comparable industry will be an advantage.
  • Strong command of corporate tax law, international tax principles, and tax accounting standards.
  • Ability to align tax decisions with business objectives and identify tax-efficient solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability for complex tax scenarios.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building, guiding, and managing tax teams across multiple geographies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical tax matters to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions, regions, and cultures.
  • Flexible, organized, and able to adapt quickly to changing tax regulations and priorities.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to balance multiple deadlines and priorities.
