The company is hiring an experienced and driven GIS Database Administrator to support a modern, high-performing technology platform. This role is suited to someone who enjoys collaborative work, operational excellence, and hands-on responsibility for GIS database environments.
Role overview
You will be responsible for administering GIS databases and the database engine behind them, with emphasis on ArcGIS Enterprise geodatabases. The position focuses on performance optimization, reliability, security, automation, maintenance, and support for production GIS services.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and maintain GIS databases, including ArcGIS Enterprise geodatabases and the associated database platform.
- Improve performance through query tuning, CTE optimization, ETL support, index design, storage refinement, and ongoing health checks.
- Carry out backup and recovery tasks, including restore validation, and plan for disk usage and storage expansion.
- Control access and safeguard data through role management, permissions, and auditing practices.
- Investigate and resolve operational issues such as locks, connectivity failures, job errors, and data inconsistencies.
- Support patching, version upgrades, deployments, and planned maintenance windows.
- Assist with database migration work and verify schema and data changes after updates.
- Automate provisioning, backup tasks, monitoring routines, and standard operating runbooks.
- Introduce CI/CD or scheduled workflows for database and GIS maintenance activities.
- Strengthen dashboards, alerting, and incident response procedures to improve observability and response speed.
Required skills and experience
The ideal candidate should have solid hands-on experience managing databases in GIS settings, especially with ArcGIS Enterprise geodatabases. Practical knowledge of one or more database engines such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or a similar platform is expected. Experience with performance tuning, indexing, ETL support, backup and restore procedures, storage planning, security controls, and service reliability is important. Familiarity with automation, scripting, CI/CD practices, and monitoring tools is also needed. Python knowledge for GIS/database maintenance automation is a plus.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, GIS, Geoinformatics, or another related discipline is preferred. Relevant experience in GIS database administration is required.
