Role overview

This position supports store pricing activity and customer service in a retail environment. The main objective is to help deliver an accurate, friendly, and efficient shopping experience while keeping pricing, signage, and shelf information up to date. The role also contributes to shrink control by following standard practices carefully.

Key duties

• Keep a welcoming, attentive customer-focused environment with an emphasis on quick, courteous, and precise service.
• Work cooperatively and helpfully with fellow associates.
• Make sure promotional and advertising materials are used correctly on the sales floor.
• Update shelf tags whenever prices change in any department.
• Use product or tag scans to confirm that price updates are accurate.
• Maintain display signage throughout the pricing update process.
• Fix tag issues for items whose price changes were not transmitted properly.
• Remove tags and hang closeout labels for discontinued merchandise.
• Check prices and tags for 1,000 store items each week using the wireless handheld device, following the schedule provided by the Customer Support Center, and resolve any mismatches.
• Order and keep sufficient replacement shelf tags for Warehouse and DSD items.
• Prepare tags for new items and confirm that they scan correctly.
• Report pricing errors, including items not transmitted correctly or not found in the system, to the Customer Support Center through Voice of Retail.
• Follow company standards, policies, and operating practices closely.
• Adhere to food safety and workplace safety rules and procedures.
• Identify and correct unsafe conditions that could lead to injuries or accidents for associates or customers.
• Report all associate and customer accidents to the Manager on Duty according to established procedures.
• Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
• Wear the required Food Lion uniform and name badge, and maintain a clean, neat appearance consistent with dress code expectations.
• Complete required computer-based training, training packets, and training aids successfully.
• Carry out any other tasks assigned by management.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and customer service abilities are needed.
• Willingness to learn multiple duties and the technical aspects of the role is essential.
• Ability to apply technical information to solve problems is important.
• Applicant must satisfy the minimum age requirement for the job’s specific functions.
• Candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical requirements

• Ability to use computers and other communication systems needed for the job.
• Repeated hand and arm motions are required.
• Must be able to bend and lift products up to 15 lbs continuously, 25 lbs frequently, and 50 lbs occasionally.
• Must be able to push or pull up to 75 lbs occasionally.
• Standing is required for the full shift, with frequent short-distance walking.
• Ability to work around cleaning materials, packaging supplies, fresh produce, houseplants/flowers, and household cleaners is necessary.
• Frequent use of hands for handling cash and coins, and for operating tools and equipment such as a cash register, lottery machine where applicable, scanner, computer, and calculator.
• Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level, with occasional reaching above shoulder or below waist level.
• Must be able to meet the position’s expected activity levels.
• Should be able to work in very hot or cold conditions for up to 20 minutes at a time.
• Must have enough visual ability to check IDs, checks, invoices, and other written materials.
