About Chocolate Films
Chocolate Films is a video production company with locations in London and Glasgow, specializing in content creation for museums, art galleries, charities, and corporate clients. Founded in 2001 as a social enterprise, it reinvests profits to offer filmmaking opportunities to children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Notably, it holds a Royal Warrant from King Charles III as the only full-service video production company with this honor.
Position Overview
We are seeking a full-time Filmmaker/Editor based at our Nine Elms Studio in Battersea. The ideal candidate will be an imaginative storyteller with a minimum of three years' relevant experience. Besides filmmaking, you will fulfill the role of Studio Lead, overseeing daily operations and contributing to the studio's long-term growth.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conceptualizing and writing scripts and treatments.
- Conducting on-location shoots independently or collaboratively.
- Editing footage in-house at Nine Elms Studio, managing the process from assembly to the final grade and audio mix.
- Producing content across documentaries, museum and gallery films, event coverage, conference videos, and promotional materials.
- Leading Chocolate Films workshops aimed at empowering young people and vulnerable adults in filmmaking skills development.
Studio Lead Duties
- Providing training on best practices to fellow filmmakers.
- Ensuring proper setup, maintenance, and organization of studio equipment including lighting rigs.
- Recommending upgrades and new acquisitions for studio technology.
- Programming lighting states within the studio environment.
- Identifying and implementing improvements for studio operations.
- Maintaining the studio's physical condition, such as painting touch-ups and organizing the space.
Candidate Profile
The successful applicant will be self-driven and eager to enhance their skills. Must demonstrate effectiveness under tight deadlines, enjoy solo and team-based work, and take full responsibility for the studio environment.
Preferred Skills and Expertise
- Proficient in operating Canon cinema cameras (C400, C200, C50) and mirrorless camera systems.
- Competent lighting techniques, preferably using Aputure lighting equipment.
- Strong technical understanding of audio gear, accessories, and grip tools.
- Advanced editing capabilities with software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
Essential Qualities and Requirements
- Adaptability to learn and use new platforms and software.
- Positive and proactive attitude combined with excellent communication skills.
- Presents a clean, full driving license.
- Resides in London and commits to daily presence at Nine Elms Studio.
- Passionate about mentoring children and young people through creative projects.
Compensation and Working Conditions
The role offers an annual salary range of £35,000 to £38,000 depending on experience, along with enhanced maternity pay. Employment requires a clean extended DBS check and driving licence. The initial contract involves a six-month trial, aiming for a long-term appointment.
Regular hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, though evening and weekend work is sometimes necessary, with time off in lieu provided for extra hours worked.
