Job Overview
The Environmental Services Worker I is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and inviting environment by performing various cleaning, floor care, and waste management activities within designated areas. This role is essential in ensuring high standards of hygiene and safety, directly contributing to the well-being and comfort of patients, staff, and visitors. The position requires strict compliance with infection control and regulatory protocols.
Primary Duties
- Clean and disinfect assigned spaces such as patient rooms, corridors, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, elevators, stairways, and locker rooms following infection control procedures.
- Perform floor maintenance including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting furniture and equipment using appropriate cleaning tools and methods.
- Maintain hard and carpeted surfaces by performing tasks like stripping, refinishing, and upholstery treatment according to departmental guidelines.
- Clean walls, ceilings, windows, woodwork, door panels, and other surfaces to uphold cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Restock necessary supplies in designated areas, monitor inventory levels, and report shortages to maintain uninterrupted availability.
- Handle trash and biohazardous waste safely by collecting, transporting, and disposing of materials in compliance with safety and HIPAA regulations.
- Operate and care for cleaning equipment efficiently, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
- Assist in minor repair or maintenance work and report major facility problems to the relevant personnel.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned, maintain consistent attendance, and comply with all organizational policies and quality standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Preferably 1 to 2 years of experience in cleaning or environmental services.
- Proficient knowledge of cleaning techniques, tools, equipment, and products.
- Understanding of infection control practices and safety standards in healthcare or similar environments.
- Ability to use cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong detail orientation with excellent management of time.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Physical capability to perform routine repetitive tasks and lift or move items as necessary.
Additional State-Specific Requirements
- In Indiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina, completion of assigned SAMA course within 30 days of hire is mandatory.
