Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

About the Role

The EHS Manager at Americo Manufacturing Company will lead and oversee environmental, health, and safety initiatives across manufacturing operations, ensuring strict adherence to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all relevant regulations. This role works closely with management and staff to cultivate a culture of safety, minimize workplace accidents, address environmental risks, and promote continuous operational improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, implement, and sustain EHS policies, procedures, and programs that comply with regulatory requirements and promote workplace safety.
• Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and related federal, state, and local regulations.
• Administer OSHA mandatory programs including recordkeeping, employee training, reporting, and inspections, such as maintaining OSHA 300 logs and safety documentation.
• Oversee environmental permits and ensure compliance concerning hazardous waste, emissions, stormwater, wastewater, chemical handling, and spill prevention.
• Conduct audits, inspections, risk assessments, and compliance reviews, identifying hazards and enforcing corrective and preventive measures.
• Investigate incidents like workplace injuries, near misses, environmental accidents, and property damage to identify root causes and mitigate risk.
• Develop and deliver EHS-related training; enforce adherence to safety standards, procedures, and personal protective equipment usage.
• Manage workers' compensation claims, lead return-to-work programs, and initiate injury prevention strategies.
• Coordinate emergency response planning, including evacuation drills and preparedness activities.
• Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Hazard Communication programs, and Spill Prevention and Control plans.
• Collaborate with leadership to build a proactive safety culture using employee engagement, safety committees, recognition programs, and behavioral safety initiatives.
• Analyze safety and environmental data, producing action plans for performance and compliance improvements.
• Act as the main contact for regulatory agency inspections, audits, and compliance issues.
• Ensure compliance of all contractors, vendors, and visitors with company safety and environmental policies.
• Assess new equipment, processes, and facility modifications for compliance with safety and environmental standards.
• Provide supervisory guidance and support to managers, supervisors, and employees on EHS compliance and leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related disciplines preferred.
• At least five years of EHS experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Proven background managing OSHA compliance, environmental regulations, incident investigations, and workers' compensation programs.
• Preferred professional certifications include CSP, OHST, ASP, CHMM, or equivalents.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough understanding of regulations from OSHA, EPA, DOT and related entities applicable to manufacturing.
• Experience with environmental permitting, hazardous waste management, spill prevention, air quality, and stormwater compliance.
• Familiarity with safety management systems, evaluating risk, and performing root cause analyses.
• Strong leadership and communication skills to promote safety culture and deliver effective training.
• Ability to analyze data trends and implement corrective actions for operational improvements.
• Competency in Microsoft Office and EHS management software.

Physical and Work Environment

• Ability to walk for extended periods within production and warehouse areas.
• Capability to climb stairs, ladders, and access equipment as needed.
• Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
• Willingness to wear required PPE, including safety glasses and hearing protection.
• Work environment involves exposure to industrial conditions such as machinery noise, dust, and heat.
• Some travel between company sites may be necessary.
