Engineering Project Manager, Charging

Role Overview

The Engineering Project Manager, Charging, is tasked with actively coordinating programs throughout all design and pre-construction stages of Tesla’s charging infrastructure sites. This includes conducting feasibility studies, ensuring due diligence, planning layouts and designs, managing electricity service requests, procuring equipment, and securing necessary permits and entitlements. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in managing infrastructure projects of diverse sizes and complexities across multiple regions, demonstrate proactive initiative, employ strong analytical problem-solving skills, and have a comprehensive grasp of project specifics. A high-energy and optimistic mindset is essential to drive project completion effectively and efficiently.

Key Duties

• Oversee all phases from feasibility assessment to design and pre-construction readiness for charging location projects; a crucial KPI is advancing sites to construction-ready status.
• Organize and lead onsite field visits to perform due diligence analyzing constructability, design parameters, utility provision, and cost factors; deliver site reports and preliminary schematics as required.
• Evaluate project documentation related to site projects to confirm construction feasibility.
• Interface with utility company representatives to identify optimal interconnection points, finalize design plans, service agreements, and easement arrangements.
• Engage with zoning and permitting officials to comprehend regulatory approval processes and identify opportunities to expedite timelines; represent Tesla’s charging initiatives at public forums and continuously monitor approval progress.
• Transition fully authorized and permitted, construction-ready projects to the construction team; provide Request For Information (RFI) responses and design assistance as needed.

Candidate Profile

• Willingness to travel approximately 25-50% of the time.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in project management, vendor relations, and/or site development, ideally in electric vehicle charging, telecommunications, solar energy, or retail site development, supported by an Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
• Solid understanding of electrical design schematics, electrical equipment, power system integration, and utility design workflows, alongside comprehensive knowledge of site development regulations and permitting requirements.
• Proven record in managing multiple concurrent projects delivered ahead of schedule while maintaining stringent quality and standards.
• Expertise in interpreting, reviewing, and annotating zoning and construction blueprints, including utility and power distribution designs; accountable for evaluating construction design cost implications and advising on cost-efficient options.
• Strong communication skills enabling effective interactions and relationship-building with property owners, municipal authorities, utility companies, contractors, and other key stakeholders throughout project phases.
• Self-motivated with the capacity to operate independently, challenge conventional approaches, and eagerly introduce innovative improvements in design, processes, assemblies, costs, or organizational practices.
