About the Role
Gregory Distribution Ltd is seeking a dedicated Driver Training Officer based in Ernesettle, Plymouth, England. This position emphasizes enhancing driver skills, compliance, and safety by implementing comprehensive training initiatives. The role plays a vital part in supporting transport professionals and fostering continuous improvement in driver performance within a forward-thinking logistics company.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute proactive training programs in line with company policies and operational processes.
- Conduct local driver inductions, development sessions, skills training, assessments for Potential New Drivers, Long Semi-Trailer training, manual handling, and vehicle familiarization exercises.
- Assign training tasks appropriately to depot-based Driver Development Coaches and ensure proper coverage across depots.
- Provide delivery of training in absence of Driver Development Coaches and collaborate closely with operational management and the central Learning & Development team.
- Lead remote Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) courses annually from January through April and support scheduled training weeks requiring full-week CPC course delivery.
- Facilitate the Driver Smart 360 CPC program throughout the year adhering to regulatory and centre standards.
- Contribute actively to the continuous refinement and upgrade of training materials and programs.
- Maintain accurate, current, and auditable records of driver training activities per company standards.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, including attendance at annual CPC familiarization and continuous professional development events.
- Receive comprehensive training in relevant certifications including PRIM Fleet Assessor, IOSH Managing Safely, Manual Handling Instructor, Level 3 Award in Education and Training, First Aid at Work, and other compliance inductions.
Requirements
- Possess a valid UK Class 1 CE driving licence with a minimum of three years driving experience and a clean record (maximum of three penalty points).
- Experience in driver coaching, training delivery, or assessment roles within the transport or logistics sector.
- In-depth understanding of LGV driver regulations, safety protocols, compliance obligations, and safe systems of work.
- Effective communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement capabilities with a strong ability to foster productive relationships across teams.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Competency in data analysis and utilizing digital platforms for training record management, reporting, and compliance oversight.
- A proactive safety-first attitude coupled with high professional integrity.
- Flexibility to accommodate changing schedules and travel requirements supporting multiple depot locations as necessary.
Benefits and Working Conditions
- Competitive annual salary ranging between £38,000 and £42,000, contingent on experience.
- Standard working hours from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday through Friday, with occasional flexibility to cover nights or unsocial hours as business demands.
