Role Overview
Located in Torbay, Newfoundland and Labrador, Cahill Fabrication Structural is looking for a capable and experienced Draftsperson to join their team. This role involves generating precise and detailed drawings that support fabrication and construction projects, ensuring successful delivery. The incumbent will refine their technical drawing skills by interpreting a variety of source information including preliminary data, field notes, and sketches, all while adhering strictly to company standards.
Main Responsibilities
- Utilize CAD software to produce detailed and accurate drawings and layout plans, operating primarily under the guidance of the Project Manager.
- Translate initial data, field observations, and rough sketches into accurate and standardized construction drawings.
- Coordinate with both producing and detailing companies to deliver drawing-related outputs, including fabrication shop drawings.
- Apply nesting software techniques to optimize component layouts, reducing material waste.
- Foster strong professional relationships with colleagues and clients by responding promptly to inquiries and maintaining effective communication.
- Carry out quantity take-offs when required for project estimations.
- Suggest and participate in continuous improvement initiatives in areas like drafting, detailing, piece marking, and tracking processes.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of an Engineering degree or Technical diploma with at least three years' experience in civil or structural engineering, preferably involving large scale industrial projects.
- High proficiency in AutoCAD, with experience in creating and modifying detailed fabrication drawings.
- Experience with nesting processes to optimize material use and operational efficiency.
- Knowledge of Canadian and offshore civil and structural engineering codes and practices.
- Ability to operate independently with limited supervision.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Advanced ability to interpret drawings and specifications accurately.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
