About the Role
Idea Rebel, a digital agency headquartered in Toronto and Vancouver, is searching for a Freelance Digital Designer to join their team based in Indiana, United States. This opportunity demands a detail-focused and skillful individual capable of producing award-worthy, pixel-perfect digital products under the pressure of a dynamic and fast-moving environment. The candidate should be a self-driven problem solver who confidently takes ownership of projects and possesses a genuine passion for design. An in-depth knowledge of typography, UI, illustration, photography, and digital culture is essential, in addition to understanding the capabilities of current and emerging technologies.
As part of a small collaborative team and reporting directly to the Creative Director, traits such as friendliness, enthusiasm, and strong organizational skills are vital. The role encompasses designing a broad variety of digital experiences ranging from advanced web solutions, software applications, mobile devices, to bespoke experiential interactions. Success in this position requires a firm grasp of user experience (UX) design principles and digital strategy, with conceptual creativity being a notable advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Creative Director and the design team to develop client-centric, innovative digital design solutions.
- Create visually attractive designs that adhere to creative direction and brand standards while resonating with target audiences.
- Design mood boards, storyboards, and conceptual materials for pitches.
- Develop UI guidelines, page layouts, responsive site grids, and interface prototypes, ensuring all content, functionality, and navigation requirements are met under supervision.
- Spot opportunities to enhance business value and optimize user experience based on user research and insights with guidance.
- Engage in brainstorming and conceptual development sessions.
- Coordinate with developers to maintain design quality throughout the development lifecycle.
- Possess skills in photo retouching and compositing to add value to projects.
- Show readiness or experience in client presentations, enhancing communication of design ideas.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Design or a related discipline, or equivalent professional visual design experience.
- Between two to three years of professional industry experience.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a passion for digital design in interactive, mobile, and social media domains.
- Comprehensive knowledge of typography, illustration, photography, and contemporary digital culture.
- Proficiency in user-centered design methods and techniques.
- Excellent collaboration, organizational aptitude, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities.
- Must be a Canadian resident or hold a valid work permit.
- Expertise with macOS and Adobe Creative Suite applications.
- Familiarity with Sketch and InVision is a plus.
