Job description
Role Summary
We are seeking a Database Administrator specialized in DB2 to manage comprehensive database administration tasks. Responsibilities include setting up databases, maintaining objects, backup and recovery procedures, and contributing to database design and application SQL optimization. Experienced candidates may also contribute to consulting roles involving performance tuning, data governance, and policy definition.
Key Duties
- Execute data migration from Mainframe DB2 on z/OS to flat files utilizing scripts or mainframe tools.
- Plan and oversee database migration projects.
- Monitor database performance and availability, undertaking proactive measures to enhance them.
- Track service levels, maintain database configurations, and provide regular reports to stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with agreed service levels and initiate action plans when necessary.
- Lead database operations according to established procedures.
- Implement continuity measures including backup, restoration, and disaster recovery plans to maintain business operations.
- Define and enforce data governance policies related to database management including permissions, security hardening, and naming conventions.
- Stay updated with current database technologies.
- Collaborate with application teams to assess and improve database designs aligned with business needs.
- Develop and enforce standards and procedures for database environments across implementations.
- Engage with customers to clarify database design and technical issues.
- Educate teams on best practices in database coding and design.
- Share expertise through communities of practice and internal forums.
- Contribute to an organizational knowledge base based on project experiences.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 4 years experience administering Mainframe DB2 on z/OS databases.
- Strong proficiency in database design, implementation, and operational support.
- Demonstrated experience in migrating data from Mainframe DB2 on z/OS to flat files via scripts/tools.
- Familiarity with additional databases such as MS SQL Server or DB2 uDB is advantageous.
- Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure is a plus.
