Role Overview
The Data Entry Clerk - Billing II is essential for maintaining the accuracy and thoroughness of billing details and patient demographics in the billing department. The role encompasses meticulous data entry, verification of information, and liaising with internal teams and external clients to resolve any billing inconsistencies. Working on a schedule from Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM Eastern Time, the position supports the organization's commitment to streamlined billing operations and superior customer service. This opportunity is ideal for individuals experienced in medical billing, data entry, and customer relations seeking growth within a reputable health care organization.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum one year of customer service experience in support, medical billing, or related fields
- Background in billing data entry, understanding of eligibility and payer systems
- Proficient with computer use and Windows applications, including effective keyboarding and navigation
- Successful completion of new hire training with proficiency in job responsibilities
- Preferred: Some college coursework, familiarity with medical terminology, or medical coding certification
- Knowledge of diverse billing requirements across multiple payers and states
- Call center experience is advantageous
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills: empathy, problem-solving, multitasking, adaptability
Responsibilities
- Research and secure missing data or demographics needed to complete accessions and billing
- Enter billing accessions data accurately and completely
- Demonstrate proficiency in eligibility, billing, receivables systems, and related software
- Educate external clients on submitting complete billing information to avoid future issues
- Notify customers about billing inconsistencies and effectively communicate resolutions
- Place outbound calls to clients, patients, carriers, and internal sources to gather required details
- Handle inbound calls addressing account inquiries and swiftly resolving billing concerns
- Respond to written correspondences related to account queries as necessary
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when managing sensitive client and patient interactions
- Keep precise records of transactions, communications, and problem resolutions
- Generate and distribute reports to stakeholders to ensure billing accuracy
- Identify and communicate trends involving errors, denials, or PHI breaches to management
- Operate both independently and cooperatively to meet accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction targets
- Engage in cross-training and undertake additional duties to support team goals
