Job Overview

The Data Centre Generators Specialist is tasked with operating data center machinery and systems safely, efficiently, and effectively, focusing on cost management. This role demands maintaining the utmost professionalism while aligning with client requirements and striving to achieve zero downtime. The specialist safeguards and enhances the value of client assets by ensuring the optimal functioning of all building engineering systems, including installation, repair, and maintenance of equipment both inside and outside the facility. Routine testing, inspections, and data analysis are part of maintaining data center operations at optimal levels.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, including testing and commissioning generators, managing warranty services, troubleshooting, and addressing issues promptly to minimize operational disruption.
• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and escalate critical failures or alarms to supervisors and vendors as needed.
• Handle tool and parts requisitions, maintain equipment in good condition, and ensure proper use and return of tools.
• Utilize monitoring tools to continuously observe data center equipment performance and respond to alerts with corrective action.
• Uphold security protocols within the data center, adhering to established facility guidelines and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
• Document maintenance activities, equipment status, incident reports, and prepare regular performance reports; recommend enhancements to SOPs, EOPs, and MOPs through official change requests.
• Coordinate with external vendors and contractors during servicing, repairs, and installations, ensuring all maintenance aligns with vendor procedures.
• Oversee environmental management practices such as proper disposal of spares and consumables, and monitor environmental conditions for optimal data center performance.
• Support change management activities including equipment upgrades and facility adjustments while minimizing operational impacts.
• Participate in emergency response efforts, following disaster recovery and business continuity protocols.

Qualifications and Skills

• Possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent; an associate's or bachelor's degree in a related discipline is advantageous.
• Have between three to five years of experience in data center operations, maintenance, or related technical roles.
• Demonstrate strong technical knowledge of data center infrastructure, especially in power systems.
• Skilled in using monitoring and diagnostic tools relevant to data center management.
• Exhibit effective team collaboration skills and clear communication of technical information.
• Basic understanding of security and compliance standards pertinent to the data center environment.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities with adeptness in troubleshooting.
• Flexible and adaptable to fast-paced, evolving workplace settings.
• Acquainted with change management and emergency response procedures within data center operations.
