Job Overview
The role of General Foreman involves overseeing and managing daily construction site operations to ensure projects are executed safely, within timeframes, budget, and quality standards aligned with project requirements. This position demands directing site teams while coordinating with engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and ensuring strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Key Duties
- Supervise and coordinate construction activities across various sections of the site each day.
- Lead and manage foremen, skilled laborers, and subcontractors to maintain smooth operations.
- Assign manpower, equipment, and materials efficiently to align with project schedules and priorities.
- Examine construction drawings, specifications, and plans to guarantee precise execution.
- Track project progress to ensure completion in line with approved timelines and quality criteria.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Site Engineers, QA/QC Engineers, and HSE officers to address site challenges.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Inspect active work zones to detect defects, take corrective steps, and uphold high workmanship standards.
- Ensure appropriate use and upkeep of construction machinery and tools.
- Oversee material needs and liaise with procurement and logistics to prevent delays.
- Prepare and submit daily reports on site activities, manpower deployment, and progress to management.
- Handle on-site conflicts and technical issues to sustain productivity and minimize setbacks.
- Verify all construction practices adhere to local laws, project specs, and client expectations.
- Assist in project wrap-up activities including inspections, defect rectification, and handover paperwork.
Qualifications & Experience
- A minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience in the construction sector, with at least 3 to 5 years working as a General Foreman.
- Proven expertise across building, commercial, residential, industrial, or infrastructure construction projects.
- Deep understanding of construction methods, on-site supervision, and workflow sequencing.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and construction specifications accurately.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Good knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to construction sites.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office software is beneficial.
- Capacity to perform under pressure and meet demanding deadlines.
