Job Overview
The Computer Operator I will manage and operate the control console of mainframe or mini computers following operational guidelines to facilitate efficient data processing.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Unload and load trucks and other transport vehicles, relocate supplies and materials using wheelbarrows or hand trucks.
- Organize materials storage and manage refuse and salvage collections.
- Perform ground-related tasks such as digging, filling, tamping, leveling with hand tools.
- Handle outdoor maintenance like shoveling concrete and snow, cleaning drainage areas, cutting vegetation, and operating power lawn equipment.
- Relocate heavy office furniture, equipment, and machinery as required.
- Execute routine tasks following specific procedures and standardized source documents; limited need for data selection or interpretation.
- Analyze operational instructions to prepare equipment setup, load necessary media such as tapes, cards, and paper.
- Manage auxiliary system equipment connections and troubleshoot malfunctions effectively.
- Interpret error messages and implement corrections or escalate issues.
- Maintain detailed operational records with close supervision and guidance during tasks.
- Operate company vehicles to various base locations for duty execution, ensuring punctual attendance.
- Undertake additional assigned tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least two years' experience in data entry related to Simulation & Training systems.
- Associate degree in applied science, or equivalent work experience substituting degree on a year-for-year basis.
- Proficient with alphanumeric keyboard operation and familiar with transcription processes and related data entry devices.
- Capable of selecting and applying procedures through judgment, interpreting and coding data from diverse document sources.
- Must qualify for and maintain required security clearances and background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal interaction skills.
- Highly organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy and quality assurance.
- Ability to work under deadline pressure and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Availability for flexible scheduling and occasional travel requirements.
Work Schedule and Travel
This is a full-time position potentially requiring extra hours to meet project deadlines. Travel is expected to be under 25% of work time.
Driving Requirements
Candidates must have or be eligible to secure a valid state driver’s license and meet insurance eligibility. Travel involves less than 25% driving time, including local trips and training-related travel.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Primary work takes place in office settings but may extend to maintenance facilities and outdoor military training locations. Work conditions include exposure to diverse weather elements and physical tasks such as prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly pay rate: $27.04
- Health & Welfare contribution: $6.75 per hour (up to 40 hours weekly) towards employee medical insurance, with any excess paid in cash bi-weekly.
