Commis I - Pastry

About the Role

Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts in Doha, Qatar is seeking a Commis I specializing in pastry to join their food and beverage team. This non-management position requires preparing specialized meals and substituting items as needed. Responsibilities include managing oven and grill temperatures, thawing frozen food appropriately in refrigerators, and ensuring food portioning, arrangement, and garnishing are up to standard. Accurate record keeping of food logs and monitoring food quality and quantity are integral parts of the job. The role demands effective communication with chefs and food & beverage service staff regarding daily specials and inventory status to ensure smooth service.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook food items adhering to recipes, quality, presentation standards, and a food preparation checklist.
• Prepare cold food items when required.
• Support management with hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, counseling, discipline, motivation, and coaching of staff while exemplifying a professional role model.
• Comply with company safety and security policies, report maintenance issues or incidents, and complete relevant safety training.
• Maintain a clean, professional uniform and appearance, safeguarding confidential information and company property.
• Anticipate guests' needs and provide courteous and clear communication.
• Foster positive interactions and collaboration with team members to achieve shared goals.
• Adhere strictly to quality expectations and standards.
• Perform physical tasks which may include prolonged standing, walking, bending, twisting, and lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance.
• Carry out additional reasonable duties assigned by supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical, trade, or vocational school degree.
• A minimum of three years' relevant work experience.
• No supervisory experience necessary.
• No license or certification required.
