Job Overview
The CNC Turning Operator is tasked with running CNC turning machines to produce precise components in line with engineering specifications and quality benchmarks. Responsibilities include machine setup, managing materials, monitoring operations, inspecting outputs, and ensuring a safe, tidy worksite.
Main Duties
- Operate CNC turning equipment following production schedules.
- Interpret engineering drawings, process documentation, and instructions accurately.
- Handle loading of raw materials and unloading completed parts.
- Set and fine-tune cutting tools and work offsets as necessary.
- Supervise machine functions and adjust parameters to preserve product quality.
- Conduct first-piece, ongoing, and final inspections using precision measuring tools.
- Ensure all manufactured components meet dimensional and quality standards.
- Replace dull or worn tooling and report any tool-related issues promptly.
- Maintain detailed records of production and inspection results.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic preventive upkeep of machinery.
- Adhere strictly to 5S methodology, safety guidelines, and company quality procedures.
- Immediately report any equipment malfunctions or quality deviations.
- Optimize material use and maximize machine productivity.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proficient in operating CNC turning machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and basic GD&T principles.
- Knowledge of CNC control systems such as Fanuc, Siemens, or Mitsubishi.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments: Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Bore Gauges, Dial Indicators, Height Gauges, and Thread Gauges.
- Basic understanding of cutting tools, insert types, feed rates, and cutting speeds.
- Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively in team environments.
Educational Background
ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification. CNC operation certification is beneficial.
Experience Level
2 to 5 years of practical experience in CNC turning operations is expected.
Work Environment and Conditions
- Typical manufacturing floor setting.
- Availability for rotational shift work and overtime as needed.
- Compliance with safety protocols and use of mandated personal protective equipment (PPE).
