Job Overview

The Clinical Informaticist plays a vital role within an interdisciplinary team, specializing in patient care processes and clinician workflows. This position supports provider needs across the health system by contributing to the design, development, and implementation of electronic health records and other clinical technologies. The Clinical Informaticist collaborates closely with end users to identify healthcare information challenges and develop effective solutions while participating actively in facility-wide and system-wide improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide support to maximize clinical informatics utilization by developing and enhancing tools, workflows, and best practices that improve patient care quality and efficiency.
• Collaborate extensively with clinical leaders, operational managers, and stakeholders to optimize informatics related to patient safety, provider productivity, and user satisfaction.
• Engage in interdisciplinary clinical informatics activities supporting practice operations, decision-making, education, quality, and research projects.
• Align clinical workflows with technical capabilities to facilitate continuous process redesign and improvement.
• Contribute to collecting, standardizing, and sharing patient information to reduce redundancies and improve documentation.
• Offer feedback on change management strategies and promote adoption of technology and process improvements.
• Work closely with quality, patient safety, accreditation, and IT teams to clarify needs, assist in technology design, plan workflows, and implement enhancements.
• Gather clinical requirements and patient care information needs across specialties for integration into health IT systems.
• Interact directly with providers, clinical and ambulatory operations, and IT teams to translate requirements ensuring customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and patient safety.
• Participate in medium to large informatics projects, supporting solution identification and problem resolution.
• Provide consultative support to users and development teams on workflow and technology solutions.
• Respond promptly to user questions and system issues; ensure issue resolution and communicate outcomes.
• Engage in other duties as assigned with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency consistent with High Reliability Organization principles.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s degree is mandatory.
• A degree in Nursing or related healthcare field, such as Informatics, is preferred.
• Minimum two years of clinical or operational experience in a hospital, medical center, or related healthcare IT environment including clinical systems implementation for hospital or ambulatory settings.
• Licensure or eligibility to practice nursing or healthcare in Ohio is preferred but not required.
• Five or more years of relevant experience and/or certification in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems may substitute for the degree requirement.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Understanding of process improvement fundamentals and clinical workflow analysis.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Excel.
• Knowledge of clinical documentation standards and data literacy concepts.
• Experience or certification in clinical, health, or nursing informatics highly desired.
• Project management capabilities and familiarity with Epic, Fuji, and Hyland OnBase systems are advantageous.
• Change management and leadership experience; Epic certification is a plus.
• Strong organizational, presentation, and technical skills to handle multiple software applications and liaise with project vendors.

Work Details

• Position requires daytime shifts totaling 40 hours per week.
• This role is based onsite in Columbus, Ohio.
