Classroom Assistant

About the Role

The Classroom Assistant will work closely with the classroom teacher to support student learning and development in a safe and engaging environment. This role requires assisting both individual learners and groups, ensuring smooth day-to-day class operations, and performing administrative tasks. The assistant will contribute to creating a nurturing and stimulating atmosphere that encourages independent learning and positive social growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the teacher to maintain a secure, healthy, and motivating learning space.
• Foster personal and social growth among students.
• Assist learners in understanding instructions and provide both verbal and written feedback.
• Ensure students can effectively use materials and equipment provided.
• Help motivate and encourage students as needed.
• Support development areas such as language skills and engagement.
• Promote self-directed learning in students.
• Supervise children during various activities including learning tasks, library visits, extracurricular activities, school trips, and use of technology.
• Provide continuous adult supervision during playtimes, transitions between classes, school start/end times, specialist classes, and toileting.
• Coordinate with the School Nurse regarding first aid and medication administration.
• Support the teacher by managing communication logs and taking daily attendance.
• Assist with record-keeping by collecting learning evidence such as photos and observations.
• Help prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials and equipment, including AV and IT resources, photocopying, and laminating tasks.
• Participate in staff meetings, performance reviews, and professional development.
• Engage proactively in continuous learning and reflect on professional growth opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities - Sports Programmes

• When specified, assist Physical and Health Education and Aquatics departments with lesson delivery, including land and water-based activities.
• Provide tailored care to learners with special needs during sports sessions.
• Prepare and set up sports resources as directed by teachers.
• Participate actively in school sports events such as sports days, swim meets, and cross country races.

Requirements

• Minimum educational qualification of O level or equivalent, with preference for diploma or degree holders.
• At least two years of relevant experience supporting educational settings.
• A sincere passion for education and commitment to facilitating children’s learning.
• Proficiency in Information Technology, including Apple devices and Google applications.
• Strong communication skills in Standard English, both spoken and written.
• Ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Physical capability to handle the role’s demands, which includes lifting children up to 25kg and frequently sitting, kneeling, bending, or crouching.
• Commitment to high standards for oneself and learners.
• Understanding of inclusive education principles and restorative justice practices.
• Flexibility and resilience to adapt to varied daily tasks and challenges.
