Job description
Position Summary
The Civil Engineer will deliver comprehensive design services encompassing civil site work drawings and water/sewer system designs grounded on existing local utilities and facility demands. This role supports the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is stationed at Al Udeid Air Base (AUAB) in Doha, Qatar.
Primary Duties
- Develop designs, prepare drawings, compile statements of work, and generate project cost estimates for assigned tasks.
- Integrate and consolidate contributions from multiple disciplines into cohesive project design documentation.
- Undertake design responsibilities for new construction, facility renovations, and improvements related to real estate and utility infrastructures.
- Apply and tailor traditional design calculation methods, layouts, drawings, and specifications to align with project goals and standards.
- Provide civil engineering design services including civil/site work drawings, structural assessments, airfield pavement designs, and water/sewer/stormwater systems based on local utilities and usage.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with United States Air Force (USAF) programming rules and documentation.
- In-depth understanding of civil design engineering principles and methods.
- Ability to develop user-friendly designs accessible for local construction contractors.
- Strong communication skills paired with effective leadership and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite and Project software.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum of ten years' experience in construction or facility maintenance.
- Competence in reviewing and analyzing civil engineering plans and specifications, performing site assessments to identify challenges and potentials, ensuring adherence to relevant codes and standards.
- Experience with airfield pavement systems is highly advantageous.
- Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, project planning, design, management, and construction oversight.
- Mandatory completion of specific Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) courses including WENG 400, 519, 555; WMGT 131, 301, 417, 322, 422, 423; WTSS 200, with WENG 550 recommended. These courses are available online or via live broadcast and must be completed by the earliest possible session post hiring.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET US Government Clearance; US citizenship is required.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Assignment locations may feature remote and challenging living/working conditions.
- Extended hours with exposure to adverse weather and potential hazards.
- Flexibility to relocate on short notice under difficult circumstances.
- Domestic and international travel required.
- Work setting is primarily an office environment demanding prolonged sitting, frequent document review, multitasking through speech and hearing, and mental alertness.
- Capacity to lift objects up to 20 pounds occasionally.
