Role overview
This is a senior technology leadership opportunity for an experienced CTO based in the United Arab Emirates. The role sits within a fully remote, globally distributed setup and is focused on guiding the technology direction of an ambitious open-source virtual world that uses decentralized technologies. You will shape engineering strategy, strengthen the technical foundation, and help drive the platform’s long-term growth.
What you will lead
- Set the overall technology direction and make sure engineering priorities support the product roadmap.
- Guide the architecture and ongoing development of scalable systems, front-end infrastructure, and technical standards for a growing platform.
- Put in place reliable engineering practices, including system administration, infrastructure oversight, security processes, and production operations.
- Hire, coach, and develop a strong engineering team while building a culture of technical quality, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Own engineering planning, staffing decisions, and delivery priorities to keep execution efficient and on schedule.
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to improve product capabilities without compromising stability, quality, or performance.
- Evaluate emerging tools and methods, and apply modern best practices across development, release management, and operations.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance through architecture reviews, code-quality improvements, and decisions on complex engineering problems.
What they are looking for
- At least 5 years of game development experience, including proven success in a senior technical leadership or technology management position.
- Demonstrated success in scaling engineering teams, building development processes, and steering technology strategy in fast-growing or early-stage companies.
- Strong command of Three.js, React, Solidity, JavaScript, and C++, along with solid abilities in software architecture and system design.
- Good knowledge of multiplayer systems, real-time applications, distributed architectures, and modern web technologies.
- Background in infrastructure management, system administration, application security, and production operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills, with the ability to guide and inspire engineers.
- Comfort working in remote, globally distributed teams while balancing multiple technical priorities.
- Experience across several programming languages is a plus.
- Prior work on a custom game engine or advanced game engine development would be a strong advantage.
