Carpenter - Quality and Safety Role

Role Overview

West Wimmera Health Service is seeking a qualified Carpenter for a full-time position based in Nhill, Victoria. This role involves performing building, construction, joinery, fit-out, and maintenance tasks to uphold safe, functional, and well-maintained facilities throughout the health service.

Key Duties

• Perform general construction, carpentry, joinery, concreting, tiling, plastering, and related maintenance at various WWHS locations.
• Conduct both preventative and response maintenance activities while maintaining precise maintenance records.
• Assist in safe project execution by procuring materials, securing quotations, and verifying building supplies to comply with procurement and organizational policies.
• Collaborate professionally and safely with staff, contractors, patients, residents, visitors, and community members.
• Participate actively in quality, safety, risk management, infection control, accreditation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Selection Criteria

• Possess formal carpentry qualifications.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and relevant construction and maintenance standards.
• Effective communication and organizational capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an engineering team.
• Strong craftsmanship in building, construction, and joinery, including safe usage of trade tools and cutting equipment.
• Capable of reading and interpreting plans and drawings, with aptitude for updating them as necessary.

Desirable Attributes

• Familiarity with computer tools such as Outlook, email, and maintenance or record-keeping software.
• Understanding of occupational health and safety principles.
• Training in infection prevention and control practices.
• Experience within health services, aged care, public sector, or multi-site environments.

Prerequisites

• Valid NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
• Working with Children Check clearance.
• Up-to-date full vaccination status, including influenza, according to Department of Health directives.
• Possession of an Australian Driver’s License.
