Caretaker

The Role

We are seeking a practical and proactive individual to join the Estates team at Nottingham Girls’ High School, part of the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST), to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will be organized, calm under pressure during emergencies, and dedicated to upholding safety and wellbeing standards for children and young people. Experience in a related role, especially in educational or hospitality settings, is preferred. This position includes occasional driving of the school's minibus, requiring a confident driver with a clean license; support for obtaining MIDAS training is available if a D1 license is not held.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform planned maintenance and minor repairs on buildings, furniture, and equipment.
• Provide support for school events, including room setups and managing contractor visits.
• Handle deliveries, storage management, and porterage tasks.
• Open, lock, and secure school buildings and grounds effectively.
• Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the school site, grounds, and surrounding external areas.
• Assist with health and safety procedures such as fire alarm testing and Legionella risk assessments.
• Support maintenance and safety checks of school vehicles, including cleaning and driving as needed.
• Participate in capital improvement projects and facility enhancements.
• Drive the school minibus when required.

Candidate Profile

• A self-motivated individual who enjoys practical, hands-on tasks and maintaining smooth operations.
• Experience in caretaking, maintenance, site support, or similar practical duties is important.
• Comfortable with physical work and active responsibilities.
• Reliable, proactive, and adaptable to various tasks and situations.
• Capable of working both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
• Possesses good problem-solving skills.
• Holds a clean driving license with a positive attitude toward professional development.
• Flexible to accommodate the school's busy lettings program.

Qualifications and Training

• Possession of a D1 driving license or willingness to undergo MIDAS training.
• Skills in plumbing, carpentry/joinery, and painting are desirable or willingness to learn.
