Role Overview
We seek a full-time Captain based in Port-Harcourt to lead the navigation and operations of escort and security vessels. This individual will ensure all activities adhere to maritime laws, company policies, and client obligations. Responsibilities include voyage planning and implementation, crew supervision, conducting safety drills, and overseeing vessel documentation. The Captain must work closely alongside security teams to enforce risk mitigation measures, monitor operational hazards, and respond effectively to emergencies or incidents at sea. The role also involves enforcing vessel maintenance standards and liaising with port officials and clients, promoting a comprehensive culture of safety and security onboard.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of a valid Captain’s license complemented by national or international maritime certifications.
- Extensive experience commanding vessels in coastal or offshore contexts, with preference for escort, security, or risk-sensitive mission experience.
- Expertise in navigation, voyage planning, and vessel control under diverse maritime and weather conditions.
- Capability to lead, mentor, and manage diverse crew members, alongside strong conflict resolution and team collaboration skills.
- Competence in risk evaluation, decisive action under pressure, and coordination of emergency procedures and safety drills.
- Proficient communication skills for engagement with crew, security teams, clients, and maritime authorities.
- Excellent organizational skills for maintaining logs, compliance records, and operational documentation.
- Good physical stamina and readiness to work extended shifts, weekends, and endure challenging maritime conditions.
- Knowledge of maritime security tactics, escort protocols, and situational awareness in high-risk waters is an advantage.
- Academic background in maritime studies, nautical science, or related discipline is beneficial.
