Role overview
A manufacturing employer in the Niagara Falls, Ontario area is hiring a Buyer to support procurement and sourcing activities for its facility.
Compensation
The salary for this position is between 75,000 and 80,000 CAD per year.
What you will do
- Create, execute, and continuously improve sourcing plans that support operational requirements.
- Research suppliers, assess their suitability, and negotiate terms to meet quality, cost, and delivery expectations.
- Review market conditions and vendor performance to guide purchasing decisions.
- Track inventory and work with production planning to keep procurement aligned with demand.
- Oversee vendor relationships, including evaluations, audits, and compliance checks.
- Drive savings initiatives through negotiations, alternate sources, and better processes.
- Partner with teams such as Engineering, Production, and Finance to ensure procurement supports business goals.
- Generate purchase orders and manage purchasing from start to finish.
- Keep accurate documentation for purchases, pricing, and related records.
- Handle supply issues such as shortages, late deliveries, and quality concerns.
- Follow company procedures, applicable industry requirements, and government rules.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a closely related area, along with 5 to 7 years of procurement experience, ideally in manufacturing or an industrial setting. Strong negotiation and contract management ability is essential, and hands-on experience with ERP/MRP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or JD Edwards is preferred. The role also calls for excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, a solid grasp of supply chain and inventory practices, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment. Professional credentials such as CPP, CPSM, or SCMP are considered an advantage.
