This position places you at the forefront of innovation, transforming intricate business workflows into precise, actionable requirements tailored for AI-driven automation and agentic workflows. Situated at the juncture of business process engineering, AI strategic planning, and technical implementation, you will collaborate deeply with AI Automation Engineers utilizing tools such as n8n, Boomi, APIs, and event-driven architectures. By elevating the quality and clarity of documentation and requirements, you will enhance predictability in deliveries and quicken the execution of AI-centric projects.
This is a full-time role with Avalara offering a fully remote working arrangement across India.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders and engineers to elicit, analyze, and document AI automation needs.
- Map existing and envisioned workflows to detect opportunities for AI or workflow automations that enhance speed, quality, and scalability.
- Decompose complex workflows into structured use cases, detailing decision points, human-in-the-loop interventions, system interactions, event triggers, and API interfaces.
- Develop comprehensive user stories and detailed business rules prepared for development.
- Analyze data exchanges to outline field mappings, prompt requirements, exceptions, and reconciliation mechanisms to ensure data integrity.
- Identify ambiguous or unclear requirements early to safeguard on-time delivery.
- Establish standardized templates and documentation practices to strengthen scalability and repeatability of processes and playbooks.
- Engage in sprint planning and support User Acceptance Testing to verify the functionality of AI-driven workflows across standard and exceptional scenarios.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Over 8 years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst or Techno-Functional Analyst with hands-on expertise in AI automation, enterprise workflow design, integrations, and APIs including n8n and Boomi.
- Strong technical knowledge of Agentic AI, RESTful APIs, webhooks, JSON structures, data mapping, and workflow orchestration methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and integrate AI capabilities responsibly into business workflows, maintaining a focus on data privacy, security, and risk management.
- Effective collaboration skills capable of translating technical designs and business requirements into feasible technical solutions in cooperation with AI Automation Engineers and cross-disciplinary teams.
- Exceptional analytical skills to achieve clarity, minimize ambiguity, and reduce downstream rework.
12-Month Performance Goals
- Enable native AI automation features, including production-ready AI agents integrated into core processes.
- Enhance reliability of automation workflows by decreasing failure rates and mean time to recovery.
- Establish and promote standard AI orchestration patterns adopted by upcoming transformation projects.
- Deploy measurable observability frameworks capturing AI effectiveness, business outcomes, and cost metrics.
- Implement AI-driven automation initiatives that lessen manual workloads, improve decision quality, or shorten process cycle times across various departments.
- Elevate team standards through mentoring, technical leadership, and AI capability advancement.
AI-First Company Commitment
As an AI-first enterprise, Avalara requires this role to seamlessly blend AI throughout the design and execution of automation and transformation efforts. Responsibilities include identifying AI and automation prospects, leveraging AI tools to expedite documentation and analysis, maintain robust governance and traceability of AI-enabled workflows, and partnering with engineering leaders to define measurable AI outcomes. The role demands applied AI impact showcasing tangible improvements rather than mere tool acquaintance, always emphasizing responsible AI use aligned with privacy and compliance mandates.
