Role Overview

We seek a commercially astute and technically knowledgeable Business Development Manager to promote digital payment acceptance products for a major card scheme. The role involves nurturing and growing merchant accounts while prospecting for new business opportunities. The products are globally recognized for enhancing payment security, simplicity, and speed across banks, fintechs, payment service providers, and merchants. This is an opportunity to contribute to evolving digital commerce in New Zealand.

The office is located in the vibrant Auckland CBD neighborhood near Viaduct Harbour with convenient transport and amenities, featuring a modern tech-oriented work environment with a flat organizational structure encouraging professional growth.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive new business by initiating outreach, managing leads, and successfully closing opportunities to expand customer base and product adoption.
  • Identify and qualify prospective merchants through research, cold calling, and networking techniques.
  • Generate leads and coordinate meeting arrangements for the sales team.
  • Collaborate with the Australia-based Customer Solution Centre team to share market insights and best practices.
  • Support account teams by advancing deals and ensuring clients fully leverage capabilities like Card-to-Phone (C2P), tokenization, and authentication.
  • Maintain an organized sales pipeline and consistently follow up on potential leads.
  • Track and report progress using performance metrics and KPIs to ensure effective sales operations.
  • Manage the complete sales process from prospect identification through to contract execution, ensuring efficiency and smooth transitions.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of five years experience in sales or business development, ideally working with retail businesses or payment acquirers.
  • Established relationships with New Zealand retailers are advantageous.
  • Highly self-driven and capable of rapidly building senior-level stakeholder relationships.
  • Background in technical presales and solid understanding of payment technologies.
  • Ability to juggle multiple sales opportunities concurrently at different stages of the pipeline.
  • Exceptional communication skills to interface effectively with clients and internal teams.
  • Preparedness for travel within New Zealand as required.
