Job description

Role Overview

Join Auckland Council's Building Inspection team at Albany in a vital role managing a diverse portfolio of building inspections. This position offers a flexible work arrangement and the opportunity to buy additional leave. The role involves travelling within the region, performing thorough inspections, and making technical decisions to ensure compliance with building regulations and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct building inspections to verify adherence to building consents, codes, Council policies, and other relevant legislation, making informed technical decisions on inspection results.
  • Enhance customer understanding of the building code and Council procedures by providing clear, accurate, and timely advice in a customer-focused manner.
  • Document inspections thoroughly and apply well-reasoned decisions consistently.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should possess experience in building-related compliance roles, strong knowledge of construction, design, structural integrity, and relevant legislation. Effective communication and a commitment to customer service are essential, alongside the ability to manage multiple priorities and conflict resolution.

  • Possess a National Diploma in Building Control Surveying, an equivalent qualification, or willingness to attain necessary certifications.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a regulatory building environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Building Act, Building Code, and construction standards.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong ethics and solution-oriented approach during inspections and enforcement.
  • Hold a valid, clean New Zealand Driver’s License to travel between sites.

Additional Information
