Role Overview

The Building Structural Director will oversee and develop the structural engineering division within the company. Their responsibilities include guiding the technical quality of projects, managing budgets and timelines, and expanding the team and business footprint in the Gatineau and Outaouais regions.

Key Duties

  • Lead and provide mentorship to the team of structural engineers and technicians.
  • Oversee design, validation, and verification of structural plans involving steel, concrete, wood, and composite structures.
  • Engage actively in strategic planning and business growth initiatives of the department.
  • Coordinate cross-disciplinary collaboration with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and civil teams.
  • Ensure all projects comply with the Quebec Building Code, CSA standards, and local regulations.
  • Supervise the creation of technical reports, specifications, and cost estimations.
  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with clients, partners, and subcontractors.
  • Participate in recruiting, evaluating, and training structural department personnel.
  • Keep abreast of technical and regulatory advancements to incorporate best practices and innovations.

Candidate Profile

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Building Engineering with a structural focus.
  • Professional Affiliation: Active member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • Experience: At least 10 to 15 years in structural engineering with minimum 5 years in a leadership or technical director role.
  • Technical Proficiencies: Skilled in design software including ETABS, SAP2000, ADA, and SAFI.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials such as steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Quebec Building Code and CSA standards.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to inspire and manage teams effectively.
  • Communication: Strong communication aptitude and team management capabilities.
  • Project Management: Ability to juggle multiple projects concurrently with focus on quality and client service.
