About Our School
The Virtual Preparatory Academy of Ohio is a fully accredited, tuition-free online public school serving grades K–12 under the Ohio Department of Education. We provide a customized learning experience tailored to individual student needs, blending a rigorous curriculum with committed teacher support to foster success in a secure virtual environment.
Though teaching is conducted online, occasional travel and in-person attendance are necessary for state testing support and student activities.
Role Overview
- Act as the primary instructor and teacher of record for K-5 students.
- Strive to achieve all objectives related to academic performance, student culture, and state accountability standards.
- Conduct engaging and effective live lessons through web conferencing platforms using research-backed instructional methods.
- Set up and manage each course within the Learning Management System.
- Monitor asynchronous student coursework, provide daily feedback, and grade assignments promptly.
- Maintain comprehensive contact records for all students.
- Coordinate with the Principal to prepare and deliver student progress reports.
- Regularly analyze student data to adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
- Differentiated teaching that addresses diverse student learning needs.
- Apply best practices for synchronous and asynchronous learning environments.
- Create a joyful and supportive classroom culture promoting social-emotional growth.
- Embed culturally responsive teaching methods in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
- Enforce school-wide behavioral expectations in and beyond the classroom setting.
- Communicate frequently with families about their children's academic and emotional development.
- Integrate 21st-century technology skills in daily lessons and collaborative team activities.
- Engage in planning and attending non-instructional events such as social functions and field trips in person.
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with fellow staff members.
- Travel as required to facilitate mandatory face-to-face state testing annually.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a valid Ohio teaching license in the appropriate content area.
- Familiarity with Ohio State and Common Core Standards.
- Preferably have at least two years of teaching experience.
- Comfortable working within a coaching culture focused on growth, frequent observations, and ongoing feedback.
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Outlook.
- Capable of handling confidential information responsibly.
- Ability to stand for periods up to 90 minutes and supervise students in various settings.
- Clearance through federal and state criminal background checks.
- Experience working in multicultural environments is advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting annual salary ranges from $43,000 to $51,000, with exact figures influenced by location, skills, education, and experience.
