About the Role
Join Absa Uganda as a Treasury Operations Officer and contribute to maintaining the integrity of the bank's balance sheet and market reputation by ensuring precise, prompt, and well-controlled Treasury transaction settlements. This role operates within the Treasury back office, handling money market, fixed income, foreign exchange, and investment transactions while complying with internal controls, regulatory policies, and market standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately process, approve, and authorize Treasury trades in designated systems adhering to delegated authority limits.
- Monitor and ensure all transactions are completed within agreed service levels using online platforms and Front Arena workflows.
- Settle Treasury trades timely and correctly through Front Arena.
- Verify transaction details independently including amounts, currencies, counterparties, and customer or front-office inputs.
- Validate exchange rates against official documentation and approved rates, reconfirming with Markets and Front Office teams via formal communication to uphold audit standards.
- Ensure trade alignment and deal integrity across all office systems.
- Produce and disseminate various rate types—mid, customer, branch, TV, closing, weekend, Treasury Bill, and Sparrow rates—coordinating rate uploads and approvals with IT and other stakeholders.
- Oversee liquidity by monitoring Nostro account balances and assist in margin call reconciliations ensuring prompt settlements.
- Manage customer and securities onboarding processes, including CSD account openings, KYC completeness, and document indexing.
- Generate financial instructions and reconcile brokerage payments, manually post taxes when automation is unavailable, and upload reports to support accurate financial accounting.
- Conduct compliance checks, including voice logger reviews, manage dealing mandates, confirmations, and client agreements to ensure adherence to policies and regulatory requirements.
- Provide prompt resolution to system and customer issues, ensuring timely processing of trade deals and customer support related to Treasury bills and bonds applications.
- Maintain operational controls, perform regular audits and manage exception reporting to sustain a robust control environment.
- Drive innovation by challenging current processes, sharing expertise, embracing change initiatives, and fostering team collaboration.
- Adhere strictly to all regulatory, risk management, and governance frameworks applicable to Treasury operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in Treasury Operations or a comparable field.
- Demonstrated success in meeting performance targets and delivering excellent service efficiently.
- National Diplomas or Advanced Certificates in Financial Sciences required.
