About the Role

The Teacher Assistant position offers essential support within the academic setting, focusing on aiding students and classroom teachers both inside and outside the learning environment. The role primarily involves assisting children with their assignments and providing more general classroom support tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute actively to lesson planning and assessments by managing children’s books and files.
• Support students across subjects, with emphasis on mathematics, reading, and writing.
• Offer additional assistance to children with special educational needs or those learning English as an additional language.
• Assist in developing learning programs and modify materials to meet students’ needs.
• Encourage and motivate pupils during learning activities.
• Help with marking assignments and correcting student work.
• Participate in school meetings and review sessions.
• Assist in organizing school events, trips, and activities.
• Prepare instructional materials and equipment for classes or groups.
• Lead and support groups or individual children with tasks.
• Read stories to students in groups.
• Set up ICT tools such as computers, tablets, and educational devices for use in lessons.
• Accompany students on educational outings.
• Provide comfort and support to young or vulnerable children according to safeguarding standards.
• Prepare and tidy art and craft resources, display students' work, and manage equipment labeling and storage.
• Manage photocopying, laminating, and resource preparation.
• Undertake daily supervision duties during playtimes, transitions, and monitor playground safety.
• Maintain confidentiality related to personal information of students.
• Report incidents according to safeguarding policies and contribute to maintaining the school's professional reputation.

Additional Role: Bus Supervisor Responsibilities (where applicable)

• Transport students safely by following established boarding and unloading procedures.
• Ensure safety regulations and discipline rules are upheld during travel according to school and Department of Transport regulations.
• Conduct and document pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections daily.
• Manage emergency procedures including first aid and accident reporting when necessary.
• Record daily student attendance on the bus and check all children are safely seated with seatbelts fastened throughout journeys.
• Monitor and manage student behavior on the bus, including addressing incidents like bullying.
• Communicate any delays in transportation to parents promptly.
• Prepare attendance and scheduling reports related to bus transport.

Health and Safety Duties

• Promote safety consciousness in all curricular areas and encourage responsible attitudes towards personal and property safety.
• Perform duties related to playground supervision diligently to protect students.
• Take reasonable measures to safeguard students, equipment, and school resources.
• Assist in enforcing school policies and rules concerning student behavior and conduct.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols within the school.
• Maintain awareness of all necessary safety procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor's degree from a recognized institution is required.
• At least 5 years of experience working as a teacher assistant in a school environment.
• Child Care and Protection training will be provided during induction.

Language Requirements

Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this role.
