Role Overview

The Structural Engineer position is a full-time, on-site opportunity located in Delta, British Columbia. This role involves conducting structural analysis and designing metal components, connections, and assemblies for bridges, buildings, and architectural applications. Daily responsibilities include preparing engineering calculations, evaluating and interpreting technical drawings, collaborating with drafting personnel, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and client requirements. The engineer will work alongside project managers, fabricators, and installation crews to address technical challenges, assist production planning, and offer engineering insights throughout design and construction stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design of metal structural components and connections.
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering calculations supporting designs.
  • Review and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings for accuracy and compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with drafting teams to coordinate production documentation.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.
  • Contribute to optimization of designs to improve performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Participate in review of shop and erection drawings and oversee quality control processes.
  • Support project managers and fabrication teams by providing technical input during all project phases.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes and product quality.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Eligibility to obtain professional engineering registration (e.g., P.Eng. or equivalent).
  • Strong foundation in structural and civil engineering principles related to metal structure and connection design.
  • Advanced competency in structural analysis and engineering calculations ensuring safety and code compliance.
  • Proficient use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for reviewing and modifying detailed engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • Familiarity with steel design codes and practices, preferably with experience in bridge or industrial structures.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and erection workflows for metal structures.
  • Excellent communication skills and aptitude for teamwork and collaboration.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining high attention to detail in a dynamic workshop environment.
  • Ability to work on-site in a fabrication setting based in Delta, BC.
