Job description

Overview

The Code Generation team focuses on developing AI-driven tools that transform outdated, inflexible legacy applications—known for poor scalability and high operational expenses—into modern microservices architectures built atop MongoDB. Joining this team means engaging with cutting-edge innovations and creative problem-solving.

Role Focus

We seek an experienced Staff Engineer specializing in modernizing legacy applications that rely on traditional database systems. Preferably, candidates will possess substantial expertise applying AI technologies, especially Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI, to enable dependable, self-managing automation of code transformation, iterative building, and testing workflows. The successful candidate will lead the Code Generation team in architecting, developing, and optimizing workflows and tooling for code transformation, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and robustness.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Design and implement sophisticated orchestration layers and integration components.
  • Develop high-performance data systems integrating advanced AI capabilities for code generation, building, and testing.
  • Lead architectural vision and strategy for code gen tools and workflows, focusing on scalability and extensibility.

Collaborative Duties

  • Partner with product managers, AI researchers, and engineers to translate complex requirements into robust and secure technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with security and product teams to guarantee secure execution of code generation and LLM-based tasks, protecting client data and intellectual property.

Leadership and Mentorship

  • Champion engineering best practices, design patterns, and standards across teams.
  • Deliver core, foundational code as a hands-on technical leader.
  • Mentor engineers and participate in recruitment, interview, and onboarding processes.

Experience and Skills Required

  • Over 8 years of experience in software development and operations, with a record of delivering high-performance, architecturally sound software in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficiency with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with code analysis tools, refactoring techniques, and automated testing methodologies.
  • Proven experience designing complex software systems and collaborating with engineering teams to achieve reliability and performance goals.
  • Hands-on experience integrating Generative AI technologies into large-scale systems, with clear understanding of applicable use cases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and aptitude for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong project and time management abilities, including realistic estimation of cost and complexity.
  • Continuous learning mindset, with particular enthusiasm for expanding AI expertise.

Milestones and Deliverables

  • Within 3 months: Master architecture and business domain, understand customer challenges, establish leadership within the team, and start driving technical decisions collaboratively.
  • Within 6 months: Lead delivery of a prototype or initial major feature release, help shape roadmap and scope of code gen initiatives, and maintain a steady execution cadence.
  • Within 12 months: Be acknowledged as principal technical expert, successfully release a production-ready code transformation workflow easing legacy application modernization, and contribute significantly to team growth through hiring and mentoring.
