ThinkX Software Ltd is a Ugandan company specializing in building and maintaining SaaS products and custom software for businesses and financial institutions. As their client base expands, they seek a Software Project Manager / Delivery Manager to oversee project coordination, client commitments, developer follow-ups, and ensure timely delivery of work.

The Role

The Software Project Manager will ensure smooth progression of projects and customizations from requirements gathering through development, testing, deployment, and client acceptance without delays or miscommunications. This hands-on role involves close collaboration with the CEO, developers, QA/support teams, and clients to manage execution and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage multiple software projects and client customizations simultaneously.
• Clearly capture and document client requirements.
• Decompose projects into specific tasks and assign responsibilities.
• Maintain accurate schedules, deadlines, task priorities, and dependencies.
• Keep track of client commitments ensuring nothing is overlooked.
• Continuously follow up with developers on assigned tasks and deadlines.
• Detect early any blocked or delayed activities and escalate as needed.
• Coordinate software testing phases, especially User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
• Monitor bug tracking, fixes, approvals, and deployment progress.
• Facilitate communication between clients and technical teams.
• Provide clients with frequent and precise project updates.
• Verify that all agreed requirements are fulfilled before project closure.
• Maintain comprehensive project and delivery documentation.
• Prepare weekly progress reports for management oversight.
• Monitor project metrics against timeframes and scope commitments.
• Identify scope changes and ensure proper documentation and approvals.
• Contribute to enhancing ThinkX's software development and delivery processes.

Technical Understanding Required

Although coding expertise is not mandatory, a solid grasp of software development concepts is necessary. Candidates should be familiar with:

• Version control systems such as Git/GitHub
• API functionality
• Database fundamentals
• Web application architectures
• Bug tracking and feature development workflows
• Staging versus production environments
• Software testing and UAT procedures
• Deployment practices
• Requirement gathering and managing scope
• Estimation of development timelines and deadlines

Ability to engage technical teams effectively without deep coding knowledge is essential.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or related disciplines.
• Minimum of two years experience in project management, software delivery, product operations, IT coordination, or related roles.
• Experience collaborating with software development teams is highly preferred.
• Track record of managing multiple projects or client deliverables is advantageous.
• Familiarity with project management tools like Jira, Trello, ClickUp, Asana, or Monday.com is beneficial.

Success Metrics

• Establish full transparency for all active projects and client customizations.
• Ensure every task has an assigned owner and specific deadline.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation and tracking of client commitments.
• Clarify deliverables so developers know exactly what is expected.
• Identify potential delays well before deadlines pass.
• Keep clients consistently informed with accurate and timely updates.
• Effectively coordinate UAT and deployment activities.
• Reduce instances of project stagnation or neglect.
• Enable management to have clear insight into project statuses, including progress and bottlenecks.

Important Notes

This role is execution-focused rather than administrative. The successful candidate must actively drive progress, immediately flagging delays or blockers with developers and escalating issues when needed. They must vigilantly monitor client promises, responsible parties, deadlines, and completion status.
