Software Engineer

Position Overview

The Software Engineer role at Houchens Insurance Group is integral to the technology team, responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that meet business needs. Key Responsibilities

• Contribute approximately 50% effort to both frontend and backend development activities using technologies such as React, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, or equivalent.
• Write clear, well-tested, and documented code following best practices and company standards.
• Debug and enhance existing software systems to improve performance and functionality.
• Collaborate closely with product management and design teams to translate requirements into actionable software features.
• Engage actively in 30% of time in collaboration and process improvement through code reviews, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and maintaining transparent communication on project progress and obstacles.
• Adhere to established development standards, ensuring compliance with team workflows.
• Allocate around 10% effort to teamwork by supporting colleagues within the technology department and other organizational units, including flexible management of paid time off to accommodate department needs.
• Demonstrate dedication by actively pursuing departmental and organizational educational objectives, reflecting a commitment to ongoing learning and growth.

Required Skills and Tools

• Proficient use of AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) within professional software development workflows.
• Fundamental understanding of RESTful APIs, database concepts, and version control systems such as Git.
• Preferred experience with cloud computing environments and backend programming in languages like C#/.NET, Node.js, Python, or Java.

Educational Background and Experience
