About the Role
Air New Zealand is embarking on an accelerated transformation to become a world-leading digital airline. We are seeking an Intermediate Software Engineer to contribute to the creation of next-generation digital platforms and products. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and improve modern RESTful APIs and event-driven microservices architectures.
- Build cloud-native applications leveraging Java, Spring Boot, and AWS technologies.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, and fellow engineers to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
- Participate in defining and upholding engineering standards including automated testing, continuous integration, and process improvements.
- Investigate and employ AI-assisted development tools and emerging technology trends to enhance software engineering practices.
- Engage in continuous learning and share knowledge within a supportive engineering community.
Candidate Profile
- Strong experience in backend software development engineering.
- Proven skills in developing APIs, microservices, or distributed applications.
- Proficiency with Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
- Experience or familiarity with AWS cloud services and event-driven platforms such as Kafka is highly favorable.
- Solid understanding of software design principles, including ensuring security, quality, and performance.
- Enthusiastic about collaborative work, modern engineering methodologies, and AI-driven development processes.
- Exposure to full-stack development, autonomous product teams, or independently driven technical projects would be an advantage.
