Role Overview

The Senior Software Engineer will serve as a key technical leader within engineering, spearheading the integration of generative AI capabilities into the Seequent Evo geoscience data platform. Based in Christchurch with an on-site work model, the role involves tackling complex technical problems, mentoring team members, and shaping strategies for scalable Gen AI deployment. As the inaugural member of a newly established team, this position includes responsibilities for team growth and hiring to support AI-driven semantic data understanding, workflow automation, and AI agent interaction for a global user base.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop sophisticated software solutions, components, and integrations utilizing modern cloud technologies and appropriate modeling techniques.
• Research, implement, and maintain advanced generative AI frameworks, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, semantic search strategies, vector database technologies, and Agent-to-Agent communication protocols.
• Oversee the full software release lifecycle, coordinating across multiple teams while ensuring compliance with quality and security benchmarks.
• Independently manage small to medium projects or segments, including realistic planning, risk management, scheduling, and alignment with organizational procedures.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to engineering personnel, promote team development, and lead comprehensive design and code reviews.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of software engineering experience with at least 1 year of practical involvement in building and operating generative AI products leveraging large language models in production.
• In-depth expertise in RAG systems, semantic search mechanisms, vector databases, and knowledge retrieval optimization for large-scale applications.
• Knowledge of agent frameworks such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) or Agent2Agent (A2A) to extend AI service integrations.
• Solid experience with cloud platforms, containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, CI/CD pipeline development, DevOps practices, and constructing FastAPI-based services.
