Role Overview

As a Self Checkout Attendant at Walmart Canada, you will play an essential role in enhancing the customer shopping experience by providing courteous assistance within the self-checkout zone. This position helps patrons complete their transactions smoothly and supports retail operations in a fast-moving environment, making it ideal for individuals interested in customer service and retail work.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep the self-checkout area tidy, safe, and well-organized by removing unnecessary items and cleaning up spills.
• Promote Walmart’s programs such as credit card services, product protection plans, and charity campaigns where relevant.
• Assist customers at the self-checkout by monitoring their activity, offering help to ensure efficient use, and clarifying any necessary interventions in a friendly manner. Escalate cash or technical issues to the Customer Service Manager appropriately.
• Respond to electronic article surveillance (EAS) alarms following established procedures and accurately maintain the related documentation.
• Manage Scan & Go devices by ensuring they are returned to their designated spots after use.
• Adapt to a flexible work schedule, including evenings, holidays, and weekends, to support store operations.

Challenges of the Role

• Handle a high volume of tasks efficiently in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
• Manage working overnight hours while maintaining focus and energy.
• Perform repetitive duties such as stocking and organizing inventory with consistent attention to detail.
• Carry out physical tasks including standing for prolonged periods, bending, and lifting items weighing up to 20 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 50 lbs.

Compensation

This role begins with a minimum hourly wage starting at $16.50.
