Job description
Role Overview
Nelson Tasman Hospice Retail is seeking a motivated and hands-on team member for a 12-month fixed-term role at 0.60 FTE. This position involves working across the new Donation & Distribution Centre and multiple Hospice retail locations including Richmond Superstore, Op Shop on Saxton, and Op Shop on Vanguard. The role requires flexibility and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks from processing donations to supporting retail sales and volunteer coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide operational support at the Donation & Distribution Centre and retail stores daily
- Accept, sort, and process donated items efficiently
- Coordinate and facilitate stock transfers among various sites
- Create and maintain appealing retail displays showcasing stock professionally
- Deliver outstanding customer service to shoppers and donors
- Assist and encourage volunteers, offering guidance as needed
- Operate cash registers and assist with routine retail functions
- Handle collection and delivery of donations using Hospice vehicles
- Maintain quality control, stock flow, and merchandising standards
- Keep work environments clean, safe, and well-organized
- Provide operational cover across multiple locations when required
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates may come from backgrounds in retail, customer service, hospitality, community service, logistics, warehousing, or fundraising. Essential traits include enthusiasm for working with people, a practical approach to tasks, and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong communication and excellent customer service skills
- Positive, adaptable, and collaborative mindset
- Meticulous organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Comfortable multitasking and meeting deadlines
- Experience collaborating with volunteers or diverse groups (preferred)
- Physically fit for regular manual handling and lifting
Requirements
- Valid full New Zealand driver’s license
- Confident in driving manual transmission vehicles
- Ability to work across several Nelson Tasman Hospice locations
