About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated Reporter to join the Hobart newsroom of a leading national broadcaster. This role offers an exciting chance to generate, produce, and present original news content that connects and informs audiences throughout Tasmania and nationally. You will contribute to a collaborative, high-achieving newsroom environment, providing engaging content across both broadcast and digital platforms while participating in editorial conversations.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, script, produce, and deliver engaging stories across broadcast and digital media.
- Identify breaking news and new story ideas with strong editorial perspectives.
- Cover live and urgent news events when required.
- Establish and nurture professional networks and community relationships to find exclusive content.
- Collaborate with producers, editors, and ABC colleagues nationwide.
- Develop storytelling that reflects the diverse Australian communities and appeals to various audiences.
Candidate Profile
Successful applicants will possess advanced skills in crafting clear, concise copy and scripts, with enthusiasm to tell stories that showcase Australia's diversity. Excellent communication abilities combined with an engaging personality are essential for interacting with subjects and understanding audience metrics to refine content.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in reporting for broadcast, digital, or multi-platform news environments, including delivering breaking news coverage.
- Strong editorial judgment, storytelling expertise, and the skill to conceive original story ideas and develop sources.
- Understanding of digital journalism, social media, and strategies for audience engagement across platforms.
- Possession of a current and valid driver's licence.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base annual salary ranging from $84,000 to $94,000 AUD, plus 15.4% ABC Nominated Superannuation.
