Role Overview
The Regulatory Manager at Johnvents Group plays a crucial role in ensuring the organization's adherence to the dynamic regulatory environment governing Nigeria's agribusiness and commodities sectors. As the company grows its activities in farming, processing, and commodities trading, this position serves as the chief liaison with regulatory authorities such as SEC, CBN, NAFDAC, and the Export Promotion Council. The main goal is to proactively oversee compliance risks, secure all required licenses, and guarantee that operations meet both national and international regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, managing official communication and engagement with institutions like the Securities and Exchange Commission, Central Bank of Nigeria, NAFDAC, and Federal Ministries.
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of obtaining, renewing, and maintaining all operational licenses, export permits, and certifications necessary for agribusiness and commodities trading.
- Lead responses to regulatory audits, inquiries, inspections, and assessments, ensuring timely and precise submissions.
- Continuously monitor updates and amendments in agricultural, trade, and financial legislation; assess their impact and advise company leadership on necessary operational changes.
- Design and enforce internal compliance policies that align with regulatory standards and the group's overall compliance framework.
- Manage the preparation and timely submission of all required regulatory reports and returns without errors.
- Compile and deliver compliance performance reports to the Board of Directors and Executive Management, focusing on risks, controls, and evolving regulatory trends.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain departments to ensure all farm and processing sites adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Function as the in-house auditor for regulatory compliance, conducting periodic gap analyses to maintain a consistently audit-ready status.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Hold professional certifications in Compliance (such as CAMS) or have completed the Nigerian Bar Call (LLB/BL) is strongly favored.
- Bring 5 to 8 years of experience in regulatory compliance, corporate legal affairs, or government relations, ideally within agribusiness, FMCG, or financial services industries.
Technical and Personal Competencies
- Solid understanding of Nigerian commodities exchange regulations, import/export trade laws, and agricultural compliance requirements.
- Skilled in legal research with the ability to interpret complex legislation and translate it into practical operational guidelines.
- Strong stakeholder management capabilities with proven negotiation and lobbying skills to foster productive regulator relationships.
- Detail-oriented mindset ensuring accuracy in documentation and submissions.
- Demonstrated high ethical standards and integrity.
- Effective communicator capable of simplifying complex regulatory content for non-specialist teams.
