About the Role
Join Gulf Coast Blood Center as a Purchasing & Procurement Supervisor and be part of a life-saving mission in Houston, TX. Reporting directly to the Director of Business Operations, you will lead and manage the procurement department to ensure timely acquisition of materials, equipment, supplies, and services in a cost-effective and compliant manner. This role entails supervising purchasing personnel, maintaining supplier relationships, driving strategic sourcing and cost-saving initiatives, and ensuring adherence to company policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily purchasing operations ensuring accuracy, efficiency, policy compliance, and timely fulfillment of organizational needs.
- Create, review, and issue purchase orders for various supplies and services.
- Handle review and approval of invoices, resolving discrepancies in pricing, freight, and billing.
- Develop and implement sourcing and procurement strategies aligned with organizational goals for cost, quality, and supplier performance.
- Manage bidding processes including requests for bids, proposals, and quotations; support contract negotiations and strategic sourcing.
- Lead efforts in supplier management, addressing performance issues, nonconformances, and service concerns; identify improvement and cost reduction opportunities.
- Supervise and mentor purchasing staff, provide feedback and training on procurement policies, workflows, and best practices.
- Administer compliance by managing critical supplier processes and ensuring conformance to quality, regulatory, and business continuity standards.
- Act as the Procurement Card (P-Card) Administrator for the organization.
- Collaborate across departments to forecast purchasing needs and support decisions through data analytics and reporting.
- Enhance procurement workflows by identifying efficiencies and continuous improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, Operations Management, Finance, or related disciplines.
- Minimum of three years of increasing responsibility in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or sourcing roles; supervisory experience is preferred.
- Experience managing supplier relationships, competitive bids, contracts, and working with ERP and purchasing software systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at intermediate to advanced levels, with skills in data analysis and reporting.
- Preferred experience in healthcare, manufacturing, distribution, regulated sectors, or nonprofit contexts.
- Strong knowledge in procurement principles, supplier management, contract administration, and purchasing practices.
- Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making, communication abilities, and capacity to handle multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.
- Detail-oriented with commitment to accuracy and compliance.
- Preferred certifications include CPSM, CPP, CSCP, or related credentials.
Work Conditions and Schedule
- Full-time position requiring at least 8 hours daily and 40 hours weekly; weekend work as necessary.
- Work environment is a professional office setting characterized by moderate noise levels and cubicle workspaces.
- Physical demands include frequent use of computers and office equipment and occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds; adherence to safety protocols required.
