About the Role
The Civil East sector at Aecon is a leader in heavy civil construction, managing complex infrastructure projects such as bridges, highways, tunnels, and airports globally. In the Caribbean region, Aecon applies its expertise to develop tailored infrastructure projects in island communities. The Project Controls Manager position based in Barbados will oversee cost control, scheduling, risk management, and project reporting to ensure successful completion within budget and timeframes.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and enforce project controls guidelines and plans.
- Implement necessary tools and systems for managing earned value, cash flow, costs, revenue, forecasts, and schedules proactively.
- Guide project controls and operational teams on emerging issues and best practices to ensure metric accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Collaborate with estimating, operations, and finance teams to refine financial forecasting methodologies.
- Participate in estimate handover and project kickoff meetings, contributing project controls insights.
- Manage scheduling to meet standards and project deadlines, overseeing lifecycle schedule progression and analysis.
- Analyze and report key performance indicators, recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Implement and maintain Earned Value Management plans for performance measurement and variance identification.
- Prepare and update project cash flows and forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify commercial risks, develop mitigation strategies, and promote project controls improvements.
- Lead development and regular review of the project risk register with stakeholders.
- Foster an open, respectful culture and mentor project controls staff including specialists, planners, and cost controllers.
- Maintain communications with senior leadership and external partners to ensure resource allocation and project success.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.
- 10 to 15 years of experience in the construction industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Earned Value Management principles.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building capabilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with a customer-centric approach.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with SAP and project controls software such as Primavera, Hard Dollar, Procore, or Aconex.
