Role Overview

As the Founding Designer at Metriport, you will play a crucial role in comprehending customer workflows, identifying optimal solutions, and ensuring all outputs—be it product, marketing, or branding—are visually and functionally aligned with high standards. The position offers significant autonomy: you'll define the standards for design, oversee execution, and operate independently without needing external approvals. The role demands a broad scope and elevated performance level, suitable for candidates seeking substantial challenges and creative control.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain the design system by establishing a unified design language encompassing components, spacing, typography, and color schemes that is straightforward for engineering implementation without extensive guidance.
• Design features end-to-end by progressing ideas from basic concepts to comprehensive specifications in close collaboration with founders, product managers, and engineers to deliver functional and thoughtfully designed solutions.
• Engage with users to deeply understand their workflows, advocate on their behalf, form informed perspectives on solutions, and drive those forward.
• Oversee all aspects of brand and marketing design, producing visual assets for website, sales materials, and event resources, serving as the authority for aesthetic decisions.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Strong design sensibility demonstrated by producing thoughtful and justifiable Figma designs with clear judgments on typography, hierarchy, and interaction patterns.
• Balanced pragmatism, knowing when to refine and when to deliver, expertly managing the tension between quality craftsmanship and rapid deployment.
• Sufficient technical knowledge of software development to create engineering-friendly specifications and engage in practical tradeoff discussions.
• A mindset aligned with Metriport's culture characterized by humility and ownership, demonstrating a preference for efficient problem-solving and speedy delivery.

Technical Environment

The technical stack includes React for frontend development, Node.js and TypeScript powering the backend core logic, and diverse AWS cloud services such as ECS, Fargate, and Lambda. Infrastructure as code is managed through AWS CDK. Data management utilizes PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3, Snowflake, and HAPI FHIR servers.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $140,000 to $180,000.
